Four trackers published four different totals for Indian startup funding in 2025, a 52 percent spread. For the first half of 2026 they do not even agree on the direction. Every figure here is attributed.

Ask how much money Indian startups raised in 2025 and you get four answers. Not four roundings of one answer, four different numbers, from four organisations that all do this for a living. The gap between the lowest and the highest is 52 percent. Anyone quoting one of them without naming it is reporting an estimate as a measurement.

Four trackers, four totals

Each figure is the tracker's own published total for calendar 2025. Sources listed in full at the end of this report.

The same disagreement runs through 2024. Entrackr published $14.44 Bn across 1,337 deals, Inc42 $12 Bn plus across 993 deals, Tracxn $11.3 Bn, and Bain $13.7 Bn across 1,270 deals.

For the first half of 2026 they do not agree on the direction

This is the part that should stop anyone from quoting a single figure. For H1 2026, Entrackr reported $7.39 Bn across 551 deals and called it up about 10 percent year on year. Tracxn reported $7.2 Bn and called it up 12 percent. Inc42 reported $5.2 Bn across 501 deals and called it down 9 percent. Two trackers say the half was up. One says it was down.

Note:

Much of that gap is a single round. Entrackr counts Neysa's February 2026 raise as $1.2 Bn; Tracxn counts it as $600 Mn. The company's own press release resolves it: Blackstone and co-investors provided equity of up to $600 million, on the basis of which Neysa intends to secure an additional $600 million of debt, subject to documentation. One tracker counted the intended debt. The other did not. Neither is wrong. They are counting different things.

The numbers move after the year has closed

These are not measurements that settle. In July 2025 Tracxn put Indian fintech funding for the first half of 2025 at $889 Mn. In July 2026, reporting on the following year, the same tracker put that same closed half year at $1.4 Bn. That is a 57 percent upward restatement of a period that had already ended.

It happens at the annual level too. Tracxn's December 2024 report put calendar 2024 at $11.3 Bn. Its December 2025 report put the same year at $12.7 Bn, up $1.4 Bn. In the same pair of reports, 2023 moved from $10.7 Bn to $11.0 Bn, the 2024 acquisition count moved from 113 to 127, and the 2024 IPO count moved from 37 to 36.

A number that changes by 57 percent a year after the period closed is an estimate that improved, not a fact that was wrong. The mistake is printing it without saying which it is.

Calendar year and financial year are not interchangeable

Tracxn puts calendar 2025 at $10.5 Bn with India third globally, and FY 2025-26, April to March, at $11.7 Bn with India fourth globally. Same tracker, same market, different window, different world ranking. FY 2024-25 was $14.3 Bn and FY 2023-24 was $9.7 Bn on that basis.

What is not comparable at all

Venture Intelligence puts total private equity and venture capital investment into Indian companies at about $33 Bn across 1,164 deals in 2025. That number is correct and it does not belong in this table. Its largest 2025 deals were Haldiram Snacks at $1.6 Bn, TCS HyperVault at $1 Bn and a $1 Bn buyout of Sammaan Capital. None is a startup. Set beside the $10.5 Bn to $16 Bn startup range it produces a threefold error.

What the trackers do agree on

Two things, and both are worth more than the totals. India had 132 unicorns as of 15 July 2026 by Inc42's count and 133 as of 27 July 2026 by Tracxn's, the closest agreement anywhere in this data. And 2025 was a record year for startup listings: Entrackr counts 18 IPOs raising Rs 41,248 crore, Inc42 counts the same 18 at Rs 41,283.2 crore. Both also agree that 52 percent of that capital, Rs 21,474.3 crore, went to existing shareholders through offers for sale rather than to the companies.

How to read a funding number

Name the tracker. Give the window and say whether it is a calendar or a financial year. Say whether debt is included. Expect the figure to be revised. And do not compare a startup total with a private equity total, however similar the headlines look.

Warning:

This report contains no funding figure from our own database. We hold 1,201 rounds covering 772 companies, and our yearly sums are shaped by when our crawlers ran rather than by the market. Publishing them as India totals would repeat the exact error this report is about.
