Wipro Limited was incorporated on 29 December 1945 in Amalner, Maharashtra by M.H. Hasham Premji as Western India Vegetable Products Ltd, a cooking-oil maker. Under Azim Premji (chairman from 1966) it pivoted into IT and was renamed Wipro Limited in 1982. It is now one of India's largest IT services and consulting firms, listed on BSE, NSE and NYSE.
