Upaz is a "Community Commerce and Financing" platform Through the Upaz platform smallholder farmers groups (10 to 20 farmers groups) get access to quality agriculture inputs directly from suppliers on credit. Upaz has created land size service packages for smallholder farmers. Farmers subscribe to these service packages based on their land size. Once subscribed, farmers receive all the agri-inputs required for their land directly delivered to their doorsteps by suppliers. Suppliers in turn are paid by the lending partners (NBFCs and Banks). Thus farmers don't receive the money directly but get agri-input on credit. This solves one of the major problems of diversion of funds faced by microfinance and banks. Subsequently farmers repay the in-kind credit (agri-inputs) via digital payments or through our Field Officers. We have fine tuned the panchayat level operating model whereby one field officer onboards around 10-15 groups having around 200-300 farmers. This panchayat level model becomes profitable with 200 farmers and can be replicated at scale
