The reality in the creative manufacturing sector is that a majority of the artisans work outside of the formal framework, having to depending on middlemen to help them access raw material, capital, markets, etc. As a result of the unorganised nature of business, this sector is rife with problems including intermittent work orders, low wages, poor working conditions, unfair treatment of women artisans, substandard quality of products and more. What can bring about a change is infusing a degree of professionalism in the creative manufacturing sector. This would need to comprise of structured enterprises and organisations to which artisans are connected, as well as professionals who are able to envision the long term prospects for the sector and guide these enterprises to profitability.
