Asama is a startup based in a village called Alimur in Assam. Asama works with village artisans to make decor and gift baskets from natural fiber. It started during the pandemic to help the artisans of the village. From there it has grown strength to strength. It has quadrupled its capacity as well as revenue. There are 60 artisans on board as on date. The products are made from natural fiber like bamboo, cane and mainly water hyacinth. Water hyacinth is a weed which inundates water bodies and stifles all life forms in the body. By harvesting and using this as a raw material, Asama helps increase the bio-diversity of the water bodies. The products being made from natural fiber are eco-friendly and promote sustainable livelihood amongst village weavers, mainly women.
