Bedding had hitherto been a sleepy industry, right from the world of conventional cotton farming to labour exploitation, from the abuse of natural resources to giving the consumer half-baked information. We knew we wanted to change this. We began by sourcing 100% organic cotton directly from farmers so they could get a better price for their yield and be safe from health hazards associated with pesticides and GMO seeds. All this to ensure they escape the vicious debt-cycle. Next up was choosing to weave the cotton in factories that paid due respect and wages to their labourers. Choosing GOTS and Fair-trade mills in this regard was a step closer in that direction.
