Government Reopens PLI Scheme for ACs & LED Lights from Sept 15 to Oct 14, 2025

The Government of India has reopened the application window for the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for White Goods, specifically Air Conditioners (ACs) and LED lights. This 30-day window, running from 15 September to 14 October 2025, invites both new companies and existing beneficiaries to apply via the DPIIT portal. The move aims to spur more domestic investment in key AC and LED component manufacturing.

What’s New & Who Can Apply

  • The scheme is being reopened on same terms and conditions as earlier rounds (as per the original notification of 16 April 2021 and guidelines of 4 June 2021, with subsequent amendments).
  • Both new applicants and existing beneficiaries are eligible. Existing beneficiaries can apply if they propose to move into higher target segments or via group companies in different segments.
  • The scheme is open on the official online portal: pliwg.dpiit.gov.in. Applications after 14 October will not be accepted.

Incentives & Duration

  • Applicants approved in this round (Round 4) will receive incentives only for the remainder of the scheme’s period, which ends in FY 2028-29.
  • Depending on their investment category:
    • New applicants or beneficiaries in GP-2 (up to March 2023) who move to a higher target segment may get incentives for up to 2 years.
    • Those in GP-1 (up to March 2022) shifting to a higher category may be eligible for incentive support for 1 year.
    • Existing beneficiaries who fail to meet thresholds may still claim under their original investment plan; this flexibility is allowed once during the scheme’s tenure.

Scheme Progress & Committed Investment

  • To date, 83 applicants have been selected as beneficiaries under the scheme, with committed investments of ₹10,406 crore.
  • These investments are expected to cover manufacturing of components and sub-assemblies across the AC and LED lights value chain, especially parts not yet made in sufficient quantities within India.

Scheme Overview & Implementation Details

  • The PLI scheme for White Goods (ACs & LED Lights) was approved by the Union Cabinet on 7 April 2021 under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
  • It has a total scheme outlay of ₹6,238 crore and is implemented over seven years (FY 2021-22 through FY 2028-29).

Conclusion:

With the government reopening the PLI scheme window for ACs and LED lights from mid-September to mid-October 2025, there is a renewed opportunity for industry players to invest in manufacturing and strengthen India’s domestic supply chain. For new and existing applicants, this round offers incentives, but with clear timelines and eligibility requirements. It’s part of broader efforts to boost local production, reduce imports, generate jobs, and support India’s push towards self-reliance.
