WinZO Expands to US Days After India Bans Real-Money Gaming

WinZO, a leading Indian digital entertainment and gaming platform, has officially entered the United States market just days after India banned real-money gaming nationwide. This strategic move not only marks WinZO’s commitment to global expansion, but also reflects India’s evolving role as an exporter of gaming technology and talent.

WinZO’s Global Ambitions:

The launch in the US follows WinZO’s recent entry into Brazil in 2023, placing the platform at the center of three of the world’s largest mobile gaming markets: India, Brazil, and the US. Combined, these markets represent an industry worth $65–70 billion, with over 20 billion annual mobile game downloads. By entering the US, WinZO aims to bring culturally relevant games and tech innovations developed in India to a global audience.

New Offerings: ZO TV and Plug-and-Launch Model

Alongside its US launch, WinZO has introduced ZO TV, a short-form video platform designed to diversify its content and enhance user engagement. This feature allows the company to move beyond gaming, positioning itself as a one-stop destination for interactive entertainment globally. Additionally, WinZO’s plug-and-launch distribution model enables Indian game developers to seamlessly reach international markets, supporting cross-border exchange of talent and innovation.

Impact of India’s Real-Money Gaming Ban:

WinZO’s US debut comes immediately after shutting down its real-money gaming operations in India, following the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. The new law prohibits all forms of money-based online gaming, making it illegal for companies to accept user deposits for games where players can lose money. Violations carry severe penalties-including up to three years in jail and fines up to ₹1 crore, with even harsher consequences for repeat offenses.

Industry Response and WinZO’s Pivot:

Industry leaders, including WinZO, have described the ban as a watershed moment for India’s gaming industry. While money-based games are now banned, the law recognizes and supports e-sports and online social games, allowing companies to innovate in non-cash-based formats. WinZO has responded by refunding users and shifting focus to content, micro-drama series, and free-to-play game formats to maintain engagement in India.

Empowering Indian Developers and Future Vision:

With more than 100 technology patents, a $50 million ZO Fund for early-stage ventures, and a user base of over 250 million, WinZO is poised to export Indian gaming innovation worldwide. The platform’s move into the US not only demonstrates resilience, but also sets a benchmark for Indian startups aiming to grow beyond domestic policy challenges and regulatory hurdles.

WinZO’s expansion to the United States highlights both the challenges and global opportunities facing India’s tech-driven gaming industry, and underscores how homegrown companies can adapt, pivot, and lead on the world stage.
