“The ‘G’ in Vizag Now Stands for Google”, Naidu’s Viral Tweet on $15 B Investment

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu recently sparked social media buzz by reimagining the name “Vizag” in a bold new way. In a creative post on X (formerly Twitter), he replaced the letter “G” in VIZAG with the Google logo, celebrating Google’s huge $15 billion investment in the city. The tweet quickly went viral, symbolizing how Visakhapatnam is emerging as a major hub in India’s tech landscape.

Naidu’s Creative Post Gains Attention:

On Thursday, CM Naidu shared a stylized poster showing VIZAG with the “G” swapped out for Google’s signature “G” logo, set against the city’s coastal skyline. He captioned it:

“The G in #Vizag now stands for @Google!”
He also tagged it with #YoungestStateHighestInvestment, and netizens lauded the post’s flair and state pride. The visual struck a chord, it’s both a clever branding move and a message of confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s future.

Google’s $15 B Investment: What’s the Deal?

The backdrop to Naidu’s post is the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Google. Under this deal:

  • Google will invest approximately ₹87,520 crore (about $15 billion) over the next five years.
  • The funds will be used to build a 1-gigawatt data centre campus in Visakhapatnam.
  • This will integrate AI infrastructure, renewable energy systems, and an expanded fibre-optic network.
  • It is Google’s largest-ever overseas investment, and its biggest initiative outside the U.S.

Google Cloud’s CEO, Thomas Kurian, described the project as the largest AI hub outside the U.S., saying it would help drive AI-powered solutions across key sectors. Google CEO Sundar Pichai hailed it as a “landmark development” combining massive compute capacity, a new subsea cable gateway, and robust energy infrastructure.

Partners and Strategic Collaborations:

Google is not going at this alone. Two Indian heavyweights are joining forces:

  • Adani Enterprises Ltd., and
  • Bharti Airtel Ltd.

These partners will work alongside Google to build and operate India’s largest AI data centre in Visakhapatnam. Their involvement helps fortify infrastructure, logistics, and connectivity in the region.

Why This Matters:

  1. Tech & AI Hub Ambitions This investment is a strong signal that Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself at the center of India’s AI and data infrastructure growth.
  2. Infrastructure Boost Alongside server farms, the project will catalyze energy, fiber, and connectivity enhancements in and around Visakhapatnam.
  3. Global Confidence A multi-billion dollar investment from Google underscores international investors’ faith in India’s digital ecosystem.
  4. Symbolic Messaging Naidu’s “G in Vizag stands for Google” branding elevates the narrative: this is not just about infrastructure, it’s about identity, pride, and vision.
