Tesla Powers Up India: First Supercharging Station Set to Launch in Mumbai

Tesla, the world-renowned electric vehicle (EV) company, is making a high-voltage debut in India by launching its first Supercharging station in Mumbai. This move marks the start of Tesla’s ambitious plans to build a robust EV infrastructure and signals a new era for electric mobility in the country.

Mumbai’s BKC Hosts the Country’s First Tesla Supercharging Station:

The very first Tesla charging station is located at the iconic Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai. Set to begin operations on August 4, 2025, the site features state-of-the-art technology and amenities designed to make EV charging faster and more convenient than ever before.

Cutting-Edge Facilities: Supercharging and Destination Chargers

Tesla’s Mumbai charging hub is equipped with:

  • Four V4 Supercharging stalls: These fast charging stations offer a peak power output of 250kW, enabling a Model Y to add approximately 267km of driving range in just 15 minutes. Pricing starts at ₹24 per kWh, making it one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to recharge your Tesla in the country.
  • Four Destination (AC) Chargers: Intended for longer, slower top-ups while parked, these provide an 11kW charging speed, priced at ₹14 per kWh.

Payments and access are streamlined through the Tesla app, which also notifies owners when charging is complete and helps locate available stations.

Launch Tied to the Arrival of Tesla Model Y in India:

The Supercharging station debut comes on the heels of Tesla’s official entry into the Indian automotive market. The company unveiled its flagship Model Y electric SUV on July 15, 2025, with bookings now open. The Model Y is available in two variants:

  • Standard RWD: Starts at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), offers up to 500km range on a full charge.
  • Long Range RWD: Starts at ₹67.89 lakh (ex-showroom), offering up to 622km range.

Deliveries are set to begin in September, with Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram as priority markets.

Expanding the Charging Network:

Tesla isn’t stopping at Mumbai. The company has announced plans to open at least eight supercharging locations across India, including multiple sites in Mumbai and Delhi. Each site will offer a mix of Superchargers and Destination Chargers to serve the growing community of Tesla owners.

What This Means for India’s EV Ecosystem:

The launch of Tesla’s first Supercharging station is a big boost for India’s EV infrastructure, setting new standards for speed, reliability, and convenience. Other key highlights:

  • Range Confidence: With superfast charging, EV owners can drive longer distances with minimal downtime.
  • Future-Ready: The Model Y’s CCS2 charging port ensures compatibility with other fast-charging networks in India.
  • Green Push: This expansion supports India’s drive to promote eco-friendly transport and reduce carbon emissions.

Conclusion: Charging Up for a Greener Tomorrow

With its first Supercharging station, Tesla is supercharging India’s shift to electric mobility. By investing in fast, reliable charging infrastructure, Tesla is paving the way for widespread EV adoption, promising cleaner air and a more sustainable future for Indian cities.
