India’s Quantum Leap: QpiAI Unveils 64-Qubit “Kaveri” Chip and Raises US$32 Million

Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup QpiAI has announced a major two-fold milestone: the launch of its 64-qubit superconducting quantum chip named “Kaveri”, and the completion of a US$32 million (₹ ≈ 279 crore) Series A funding round led by Avataar Ventures and India’s National Quantum Mission (NQM). These developments place QpiAI at the forefront of India’s ambition in quantum computing and AI-driven innovation.

What is Kaveri & Why It Matters:

The Next-Generation Quantum Processor

QpiAI’s Kaveri chip is a 64-qubit superconducting quantum processor, made in India, and described as the country’s most powerful quantum chip to date.
It was introduced at a technology conclave in Delhi in November 2025, underlining India’s commitment to home-grown deep tech.

The company states that Kaveri uses a “flip-chip integrated” architecture, designed for scalability and improving qubit connectivity and error rates, critical for practical quantum computing.

Roadmap & Use-Cases

  • Kaveri is expected to be commercially available by third quarter of 2026.
  • The chip is targeted at enterprise, academic and research use-cases, including cryptography, optimization, materials science, drug discovery, and AI workloads.
  • QpiAI already has precedent: its earlier 25-qubit system named “Indus” provided foundational work for Kaveri.

Funding & Expansion: US$32 Million Series A

In July 2025, QpiAI raised US$32 million (≈ ₹279 crore) in a Series A round co-led by Avataar Ventures and the National Quantum Mission.
The funding will enable the startup to:

  • Scale hardware and software development for full-stack quantum-AI systems.
  • Expand its workforce and R&D capacity, especially in Bengaluru, Finland and the U.S.
  • Accelerate global commercialisation of its quantum-AI platform, targeting enterprise customers across sectors.

Why This Story Matters:

Home-grown Deep Tech Leadership

India has been pushing to build indigenous capabilities in quantum computing; QpiAI’s milestones underscore that domestic startups can rise to global-level challenges.

Confluence of Quantum + AI

QpiAI’s framing of quantum computing to augment AI and solve previously intractable industrial problems reflects the future of compute.

From Grant-backed to Commercial Start-up

With backing from NQM and private VC funds, the company represents the model of a deep-tech startup bridging research and productisation.

What to Watch Next:

  • Commercial deployment of Kaveri: Will enterprise customers adopt the 64-qubit chip, and how will QpiAI price access (hardware, cloud, SaaS)?
  • Performance metrics and error rates: Scalability and reduction of quantum error are key to real-world utility.
  • Competition & ecosystem development: Global quantum players are advancing rapidly, how QpiAI differentiates or partners will matter.
  • Next-gen roadmap: QpiAI has mentioned future systems beyond 64 qubits; watching how quickly they scale will be important.
