He Left Cricket at 22 and Came Back as RCB Chairman The Bold Journey of Aryaman Birla

Aryaman Birla is not your typical business heir. Born into the powerful family of Kumar Mangalam Birla, he chose a completely different path early in life.

Instead of stepping directly into business, he followed his passion for cricket. But what makes his story powerful is not where he started, but how he reinvented himself.

Choosing Cricket Over Comfort

From a young age, Aryaman was deeply passionate about cricket. Rather than staying in comfort, he moved to Madhya Pradesh to train professionally, living a disciplined life focused entirely on the sport.

A left handed batsman, he represented Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket and played multiple first class matches, scoring over 400 runs.

In 2018, he was picked by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL auction. Though he did not get to play, it marked his entry into the highest level of Indian cricket.

The Turning Point at 22

At just 22, Aryaman made a decision that surprised many. He stepped away from cricket, citing mental health and personal reasons.

Walking away from a dream career is never easy, but this decision became a turning point in his life. Instead of seeing it as an end, he treated it as a new beginning.

Stepping Into Business

After leaving cricket, Aryaman joined the Aditya Birla Group and began working closely on its operations and strategy.

Over time, he grew into a key figure within the group, contributing to its expansion across industries. With a family business valued at around ₹70,000 crore, expectations were high, but Aryaman focused on learning and building his own path within the legacy.

Leading One of the Biggest Sports Deals

Aryaman’s journey came full circle when he returned to the world of sports, not as a player, but as a leader.

A consortium led by the Aditya Birla Group, along with Times Group, Bolt Ventures, and Blackstone, acquired Royal Challengers Bangalore for around ₹16,600 crore.

Following this landmark deal, Aryaman Birla was appointed as the Chairman of RCB, marking one of the biggest leadership moments in his career.

Bridging Sports and Business

This role places Aryaman at the intersection of sports, business, and entertainment. From training as a cricketer to leading one of the most popular IPL franchises, his journey reflects a rare blend of passion and leadership.

Conclusion Reinventing Identity

Aryaman Birla’s story is about courage and reinvention.

He chose cricket over comfort, walked away when it mattered most, and returned stronger in a completely new role. From being an ex cricketer to becoming Chairman of a ₹16,600 crore franchise, his journey proves that success is not always a straight path.

Sometimes, the biggest growth comes after letting go and starting again.
