Groww Opens Doors to Commodities Trading: Trade Crude, Gold, Silver & More

Groww, the popular Indian stock brokerage platform, has expanded its offerings by launching commodities trading. Now users with active trading accounts can buy and sell commodities like crude oil, gold, silver, and natural gas. This move marks Groww’s entry into a new dimension of investment opportunities.

What’s New: Commodities on Groww

  • Users can trade commodities between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. via the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).
  • The feature supports key contracts such as crude oil, gold, silver, and natural gas.
  • Groww’s platform allows tracking, analysis, and trading of these commodities directly from its app or web interface.
  • Existing users don’t need to open separate accounts-trading commodities is integrated into their current setup.

Why Groww Is Doing This: Strategy & Context

  • This expansion is part of Groww’s larger push to diversify its financial product portfolio.
  • In recent months, Groww has also introduced several new services, including corporate bonds, a margin trading facility, “Groww 915” for professional traders, and a wealth management product (“Groww W”) (after acquiring Fisdom).
  • The move comes as Groww is preparing for its IPO and seeks new revenue streams beyond its core business.

Availability & Select Access:

  • Initially, Groww is rolling out the commodity trading feature on an invite-only basis. Selected users will get access, and others can join the waitlist.
  • Users who qualify can activate the service and begin trading.

Groww’s Reach & IPO Plans:

  • Groww currently serves over 18 million active customers.
  • Its parent company, Billionbrains Garage Ventures, has filed updated draft documents with SEBI for an initial public offering (IPO). The public issue includes a fresh issue of ₹1,060 crore and an offer-for-sale by existing investors & promoters.
  • The IPO is a key part of Groww’s plan to expand and solidify its position in India’s capital markets.

What This Means for Users & the Market:
