LEGO Opens First Mumbai Certified Store at R City Mall, Strengthening India Expansion

The LEGO Group has expanded its retail footprint in India with the opening of its first LEGO Certified Store in Mumbai. Located at R City Mall in Ghatkopar, the new outlet officially opened on July 25, 2026, in partnership with retail operator Ample Group. The launch marks LEGO’s fifth certified store in India, reflecting the company’s growing focus on one of its fastest-growing international markets.

The Mumbai store follows the successful launch of LEGO Certified Stores in Gurugram, Bengaluru, and Chennai over the past year. With India’s growing demand for premium toys, collectibles, and educational play products, the company is continuing to strengthen its presence through immersive retail experiences.

What Happened?

LEGO’s latest store spans 2,310 square feet and offers customers access to more than 250 LEGO sets, ranging from children’s play collections to advanced building kits for adult enthusiasts.

Among the featured products are premium collections such as the LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar and the LEGO Icons Arcade Pinball Machine, alongside popular themes including LEGO City, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel, and Creator.

The Mumbai outlet has been designed to provide an interactive shopping experience rather than simply serving as a retail store. It includes India’s first vertical LEGO Play Wall, allowing visitors to build and experiment with LEGO bricks in an engaging environment.

Key Details

To celebrate Mumbai’s culture and heritage, LEGO has created several brick-built installations inspired by the city. One of the centrepieces is a detailed Dabbawala model, constructed using approximately 29,000 LEGO bricks.

The store also features displays representing iconic Mumbai landmarks, including the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, and the city’s famous black-and-yellow taxis.

As part of the launch celebrations, LEGO organised the creation of the Largest LEGO Brick Mosaic (Multiple Panels), which earned a Guinness World Records title. The installation was built using 738,000 LEGO bricks with the participation of LEGO fans and renowned Indian LEGO builder Ritam Bhatnagar.

The cube-shaped mosaic showcased several Mumbai-inspired designs, including the city’s coastline, taxis, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, and a prominent “Hello Mumbai” message.

The inauguration was also attended by actor and television presenter Rannvijay Singha, adding to the public celebrations surrounding the launch.

Company Background

Founded in 1932 in Denmark, LEGO Group is one of the world’s leading toy manufacturers, known for its iconic interlocking plastic bricks and creative play experiences.

The company sells its products in more than 100 countries and has expanded its portfolio to include robotics, educational kits, licensed entertainment themes, digital gaming experiences, and premium collector sets.

LEGO entered the organised retail market in India through its partnership with Ample Group, opening its first LEGO Certified Store at Ambience Mall, Gurugram, in May 2025. Since then, the company has added stores in Bengaluru, Chennai, and now Mumbai, reflecting its long-term commitment to the Indian market.

Industry Impact

India’s toy market has been growing steadily, driven by rising disposable incomes, increasing demand for educational toys, and a growing community of adult LEGO enthusiasts. International toy brands are expanding their physical retail presence as consumers increasingly seek immersive shopping experiences beyond online marketplaces.

LEGO’s continued investment signals confidence in India’s expanding premium retail sector. The Mumbai store is expected to strengthen brand engagement while encouraging creative learning through hands-on experiences for children and families.

The company’s focus on city-specific installations and interactive attractions also highlights a broader trend of creating localised retail experiences to connect with Indian consumers.

Future Plans

With five certified stores now operating across India, LEGO is expected to continue expanding into additional metropolitan cities where demand for premium toys and family entertainment is growing.

The company is likely to strengthen its omnichannel strategy by combining physical retail stores with digital commerce while introducing more locally inspired experiences and exclusive product collections for Indian customers.

Conclusion

The opening of LEGO’s first certified store in Mumbai marks another significant milestone in the company’s India growth strategy. Featuring over 250 LEGO sets, interactive attractions, Mumbai-themed installations, and a Guinness World Record-winning mosaic, the new outlet offers a unique destination for LEGO enthusiasts. As the company continues expanding across the country, India is becoming an increasingly important market in LEGO’s long-term global retail plans.
