Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India to Create Over 3,800 Jobs, Expand Annual Production Capacity to 80 Lakh Units by FY28

New production lines in Rajasthan and Gujarat will strengthen Honda’s manufacturing footprint as India emerges as a global mobility hub

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced a major manufacturing expansion that will create more than 3,800 new jobs and increase its annual production capacity from 62.5 lakh units to nearly 80 lakh units by FY2027-28. The expansion reflects Honda’s long-term commitment to India’s rapidly growing two-wheeler market and reinforces the country’s strategic importance in the company’s global manufacturing network.

The capacity enhancement will be achieved through the addition of new production lines at HMSI’s manufacturing facilities in Tapukara, Rajasthan, and Vithalapur, Gujarat. The investment is expected to support rising domestic demand, improve production efficiency, and strengthen Honda’s ability to serve both Indian and international markets.

Tapukara Plant to Add Third Production Line

As part of the expansion, Honda will establish a third production line at its Tapukara manufacturing facility in Alwar, Rajasthan. The new line is scheduled to begin operations in 2028 and will add an annual production capacity of 6.7 lakh units.

The project is expected to generate more than 2,000 direct employment opportunities, providing a significant boost to the local economy. Once operational, the Tapukara plant will play a larger role in meeting increasing demand for Honda’s motorcycles and scooters while enhancing the company’s manufacturing capabilities.

Gujarat Facility to Receive Fourth Production Line

Honda is also expanding its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat by adding a fourth production line, which is expected to become operational in 2027. The new line will contribute an additional 6.5 lakh units of annual production capacity.

The Gujarat expansion is expected to create approximately 1,800 new jobs, further strengthening the state’s position as a major automobile manufacturing hub. Together, the Rajasthan and Gujarat projects will significantly enhance Honda’s production capacity and operational efficiency across India.

Annual Production Capacity to Reach Nearly 80 Lakh Units

With both expansion projects completed, HMSI’s total annual production capacity will increase from the current 62.5 lakh units to approximately 80 lakh units by FY28.

The additional capacity will enable the company to better address growing consumer demand, shorten delivery timelines, and support the launch of new products across multiple segments. The expansion also provides Honda with greater flexibility to scale production in line with future market requirements.

India Emerging as a Global Manufacturing Hub

Commenting on the announcement, Tsutsumu Otani, President and CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said India is entering a new phase of mobility transformation and continues to grow in strategic importance for Honda’s global operations.

He emphasized that HMSI remains committed to leading this transformation with responsibility and purpose, highlighting India’s increasing role as a key manufacturing base for the company. The investment aligns with Honda’s broader strategy of strengthening local manufacturing while supporting exports to international markets.

Boost for Employment and Regional Development

The expansion is expected to have a positive economic impact beyond manufacturing. More than 3,800 direct jobs will be created across the two facilities, while additional indirect employment opportunities are likely to emerge through suppliers, logistics providers, component manufacturers, and other businesses connected to Honda’s production ecosystem.

The projects are also expected to stimulate regional industrial growth, encourage supplier investments, and contribute to the development of local infrastructure around the manufacturing plants.

Supporting India’s Growing Two-Wheeler Market

India remains the world’s largest two-wheeler market, with rising demand driven by urbanization, improving rural connectivity, and increasing consumer preference for personal mobility. Honda’s capacity expansion reflects confidence in the long-term growth potential of the Indian market and the company’s ambition to maintain its leadership position in the segment.

By investing in additional manufacturing capacity today, HMSI aims to ensure it can efficiently meet future demand while maintaining high standards of quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

The Road Ahead

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s latest expansion marks one of its most significant manufacturing investments in recent years. With new production lines in Rajasthan and Gujarat, over 3,800 new jobs, and annual production set to reach 80 lakh units by FY28, the company is reinforcing its commitment to India’s manufacturing ecosystem and preparing for the next phase of growth in the country’s evolving mobility landscape.
