Bhavish Aggarwal Says AI Agents Will Replace Middlemen, Reshape Company Structures and Redefine Jobs

Ola Electric chief believes AI agents will flatten corporate hierarchies while making product builders more valuable

Artificial intelligence is no longer just a productivity tool—it is becoming a new way to organize companies. According to Bhavish Aggarwal, AI agents have the potential to eliminate unnecessary management layers, simplify workflows, and fundamentally change how organizations operate.

The remarks came after Aggarwal revealed that he spent the week building multiple AI agents for Ola Electric. Sharing his experience, he said the exercise highlighted how large organizations often develop several layers between founders and the employees actually building products. He believes AI can bridge that gap by handling coordination and routine management tasks more efficiently.

AI Agents Could Replace ‘Middlemen’ Inside Companies

Aggarwal argued that as companies grow, multiple management layers are created to coordinate communication, monitor teams and oversee execution. According to him, many of these roles exist primarily to manage people rather than solve real business problems.

He believes AI agents can automate much of this coordination, allowing founders, engineers and product teams to work more directly with one another. In his view, organizations of the future may rely less on traditional middle management and more on intelligent software capable of tracking projects, sharing information, generating reports and assisting decision-making in real time.

People Who Build Products Will Become More Valuable

While Aggarwal expects AI to reduce the need for certain coordination roles, he also believes it will increase the importance of employees who directly contribute to building products and solving complex problems.

Rather than replacing technical talent, he suggested that AI will amplify the productivity of engineers, designers and innovators by removing administrative overhead. Employees focused on creating products, writing software, solving engineering challenges and driving innovation could become even more valuable in AI-powered organizations.

How Ola Electric Is Using AI

Aggarwal shared that he recently built several AI agents for Ola Electric as part of what he described as the growing “vibe coding” movement, where developers rapidly create software solutions with AI assistance.

According to him, these AI agents are designed to simplify work by reducing repetitive coordination tasks and improving communication across teams. The initiative reflects the company’s broader focus on building technology internally and integrating AI into its day-to-day operations.

A Bigger Shift in Workplace Roles

Aggarwal’s comments add to the growing global debate about how AI will reshape the future of work. Across industries, companies are increasingly deploying AI agents to automate repetitive processes, improve productivity and streamline decision-making.

Instead of simply replacing jobs, AI is expected to redefine many existing roles by shifting employees toward higher-value work that requires creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving. Organizations may also rethink reporting structures as AI becomes capable of performing many coordination and operational functions traditionally handled by management layers.

Ola Electric Continues Expanding In-House Technology

The AI initiative comes as Ola Electric continues strengthening its in-house technology ecosystem. Recently, the company’s subsidiary, Ola Cell Technologies, received certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its indigenously developed 46100 lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cell.

The certification marks another milestone in Ola Electric’s strategy to localize battery manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports. The company says it is building an integrated electric vehicle ecosystem by developing battery cells, battery packs, motors and software in-house, with AI expected to play an increasingly important role across its operations.

The Road Ahead

Aggarwal’s vision suggests that AI agents could become a core part of modern organizations, handling routine coordination while enabling employees to focus on innovation and execution. Although the long-term impact on employment remains uncertain, his comments highlight a broader industry trend: companies are increasingly viewing AI not just as a productivity tool, but as a technology capable of reshaping organizational structures and redefining how work gets done.
