In a major shift for logistics in India, Indian Railways has rolled out a door-to-door parcel delivery service along the Mumbai–Kolkata corridor. The move, announced in mid-October 2025, links terminal points near Mumbai and Kolkata, aiming to offer faster and more cost-effective freight solutions – especially for small consignments and e-commerce cargo.
The Route & Key Details
The newly launched service connects the Bhiwandi Road terminal (near Mumbai) with Sankrail (near Kolkata), covering a distance of approximately 1,930 km.
This door-to-door parcel service forms one of three new logistics initiatives by Indian Railways – along with an assured transit container train on the Delhi–Kolkata route and an integrated logistics hub at Sonik (Unnao division) in Uttar Pradesh.

- Cost Efficiency: Railway estimates suggest delivery via this service is about 7.5 % cheaper than comparable all-road transport.
