India has reached a significant milestone in its electronics manufacturing sector, with iPhone exports totaling $10 billion in the first half of the fiscal year. This achievement marks a 75% increase from the same period last year, underscoring the nation’s growing role in global technology manufacturing.
Surge in iPhone Exports:
- Record-Breaking Shipments: In September 2025 alone, Apple exported $1.25 billion worth of iPhones from India, a remarkable 155% increase compared to September 2024.
- Global Production Expansion: For the first time, all newly released iPhone 17 models were produced in India for global markets from launch, reflecting Apple’s commitment to diversifying its manufacturing base.
- Key Manufacturing Facilities: The addition of two major facilities, Tata Electronics’ Hosur plant and Foxconn’s Bengaluru factory, has significantly boosted India’s production capacity, bringing the total number of iPhone manufacturing units in the country to five.
Government Support and Strategic Initiatives:
- Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme: Apple’s production surge is largely attributed to the Indian government’s PLI scheme, which incentivizes large-scale electronics manufacturing in India.
- Electronics Manufacturing Growth: Between 2014/15 and 2023/24, electronics production in India has quintupled, while exports have increased six-fold, demonstrating the effectiveness of government policies in fostering a robust manufacturing ecosystem.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s Remarks:
Union Minister for Railways, Electronics, and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, lauded the achievement, stating, “Made in Bharat, trusted globally.” He highlighted that in FY25, Apple, through its vendors, produced $22 billion worth of iPhones, with 80% (approximately $17.5 billion) exported, showcasing India’s growing prominence in the global electronics supply chain.
Looking Ahead:
This record export performance not only reflects India’s manufacturing capabilities but also positions the country as a key player in the global electronics market. With continued government support and strategic initiatives, India is poised to further strengthen its position in the global technology manufacturing landscape.
