Tesla Launches India’s First Charging Station in Mumbai: Accelerating the EV Revolution

Tesla, the world’s leading electric vehicle company, has officially launched its first charging station in India at Mumbai’s upscale Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). This moment marks not only Tesla’s infrastructure debut in the country but also a significant boost for the Indian EV ecosystem, paving the way for more accessible and practical electric mobility.

Fast & Convenient: State-of-the-Art Charging at One BKC

The new Tesla facility at One BKC is equipped with eight chargers-four V4 Supercharger stalls (DC fast chargers) and four destination charging stalls (AC chargers). The powerful Superchargers deliver up to 250 kW, allowing quick top-ups-adding about 267 km of range in just 15 minutes for the Tesla Model Y. DC charging is priced at ₹24 per kWh, while AC charging is offered at ₹14 per kWh. Tesla owners can monitor, access, and pay for charging sessions through the Tesla app, which also provides real-time stall availability and notifications.

Expanding Presence: More Charging Stations Coming Soon

Tesla’s Mumbai launch is the centerpiece of a broader infrastructure plan. By the end of September, Tesla aims to open three more charging points in the city, including in Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Lower Parel. This will significantly enhance convenience for early adopters and help support Tesla’s growing Indian community.

Supporting Launch of Model Y:

The charging station’s debut comes just weeks after Tesla launched the Model Y SUV in India, with the rear-wheel drive variant starting at ₹59.89 lakh and the long-range model at ₹67.89 lakh. Both versions, imported as completely built units from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, will begin deliveries in the latter half of 2025. The Model Y promises up to 622 km of range in the long-range variant, making it one of the most capable electric cars available in India.

Bringing Premium EV Infrastructure to Indian Roads:

With this launch, Tesla is cementing its brand among India’s premium consumers and early-adopter communities. Its selective focus on luxury urban centers highlights a premium and lifestyle approach but also signals Tesla’s long-term ambition to help mainstream EV adoption in India. The rollout of more Superchargers and destination chargers will ultimately set new standards for electric vehicle convenience and reliability.

Conclusion: Charging Up for the Future

Tesla’s first charging station at Mumbai’s BKC is a game-changer. As more stations roll out and Model Y deliveries begin, Tesla is poised to supercharge India’s electric vehicle transition, promising faster charging, wider coverage, and a cleaner, greener way to drive.
